CETU is a Secret Korean Speakeasy style cafe, in a random neighborhood which sells used auto parts and has a handful of traditional Korean pubs. It’s on the 4th floor walk up building which is run down. There is no sign marking the door of the cafe – it looks like you are just walking into someone’s apartment. But they serve up cute Charlie Brown cookies, a carrot cake, and some specialty drinks. If you like the idea of a speakasy cafe (that doesn’t serve alcohol) check this place out (if you can find it!)
I discovered the cafe’s cute Charlie Brown cookies on Instagram, and decided to check it out since I happened to be in the area. Since I didn’t take the time to read the Korean captions, I had no idea that it was a speakeasy style cafe.
It’s in this really random neighborhood that sells used auto parts and has some local vintage style Korean bars – they have blue and red chairs, and sell beer and fried chicken and other traditional Korean dishes. The cafe itself is on the 4th floor of a walk up apartment building and there’s no sign outside. You get to this neighborhood and wonder, where am I? Am I in the right place? But some drunk Korean ajusshis told us it’s up there… so we followed the stairs and my husband said, there’s nothing here – he was messing with us. And we came back down and someone else told us, it s up there. So we went up again and actually opened the door this time (theres no sign) and we found this dank room with a bunch of young hipsters eating Charlie Brown cookies and sipping raspberry lemonade. We were the only ones with kids but isn’t that always the case with my family?
The girls and I liked how the carrot cafe was served with cute mini shovels. also the charlie brown cookies were filled with some sort of green tea butter and bean paste combo that is popular in Korea lately. I actually liked it and I would probably go back but my husband was not a fan at all and sat looking grumpily at his phone the whole time. This is probably a girls only cafe.
The cafe had typical Seoul cafe prices. Here’s what we ordered:
Carrot Cake: 7,500 KRW or $6.69 USD
Red Bean Butter Cookie: 5,000 KRW or $4.46 USD
Matcha Latte: 6,500 KRW or $5.80
Raspberry Lemonade: 6,500 KRW or $5.80 USD
